Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) is an adaptation of with teens in mind. The treatment keeps it's focus on addressing severe emotion dysregulation, "borderline traits", and serious problem behaviors, including suicidality and self-harm.
A growing body of evidence suggests that DBT-A effectively reduces suicidal ideation and NSSI in adolescents. Additional research shows DBT-A to be the only psychosocial treatment to reduce BPD symptoms with adolescents. DBT-A is therefore recommended as a frontline treatment for adolescents with suicidal behaviors, NSSI, or symptoms of BPD.
